Frequently Asked Questions and other good stuff. If your question is not answered in this list, we will do our best to answer your questions but find that most questions are answered here. 1. Is this a race? Answer: Absolutely not, and racing bikes and racing clothes are not required! 2. I am not a member, can I ride? Absolutely, that is exactly the intent. Members are volunteers the day of the ride supporting your ride. 3. Can children participate? Answer: Yes, BUT we recommend 12 years. or older and MUST be accompanied by a parent who is required to sign that child's registration form. 3. Are biking helmets required? Answer: Yes, and must be fastened under the chin. 4. What is the terrain? Answer: Paved roads with rolling hills with a rest / food stop before and after each loop. 5. Is the ride supported? Answer: Yes, of course! 6. Is there SAG support? Answer: During the ride on all segments we will have roving SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles on the road checking for riders in distress, usually a flat tire. Please bring 2 spare inner tubes that fit your tires. 7. How do I contact SAG? Answer: A support phone number will be supplied with the ride cue sheet. Hang onto the cue sheet even if you just follow other riders. The number belongs to the event chairperson who will dispatch a SAG vehicle to help out or drive you back to Barrington High School if your bike is disabled. You MUST know what road you are on for us to find you. 8. Is there a bike mechanic available? Answer: There will be a bike repair person at the start point for minor bicycle adjustments. Repair is not there for major repairs or tune-ups, so please make sure your bike is tuned up before the ride and pre-ridden to insure an enjoyable and safe ride. 9. Ride Recommendations. Follow the rules of the road for cyclists. Single file on busy streets. Of course you can safely double up on neighborhood streets for conversation, but please, no 3 and 4 riding abreast for reasons of safety. A collision with a car or another biker could ruin your whole day and possibly the next one. Always follow the Illinois Rules of the Road 10. Please no headphones or ear buds. 11. Cue sheet and maps are provided at registration. We do provide cue sheets available before the day of the ride and files which can be downloaded to your GPS cycle computers on our website. Check at registration area for last minute changes due to construction. 12. Checks are accepted for advance registration. Checks and cash are accepted for registration the day of the ride.
